Blue Microphones Bottle Rocket Stage 2 Tube Microphone Details

Designed for speed and transparency, the Blue Microphones Bottle Rocket Stage 2 Tube Microphone's transformerless, Class A discrete tube amplifier circuit delivers low noise, superb transient response and utilizes a single hand-selected ECC88 vacuum tube. Like the Bottle, the Stage Two has the ability to hot-swap up to nine different capsules for the ultimate recording experience. The Bottle Rocket Stage 2 is powered by Blue's innovative Powerstream power supply, which not only ensures ultra-stable performance but features a soft-start feature for maximum tube life and minimal startup time.

Great for recording a variety of sources

With the BLUE Bottle Rocket Stage 2 in your mic closet, you can rest assured - you've got an incredibly versatile mic, ready to tackle nearly any source. On vocals, you can get a "big" vocal sound, without worrying about overloading the mic, an incredible clean guitar sound on your electric amp, and a well-suited shimmering high-end on acoustics! With its natural highs and soft mid-range characteristics, your Stage 2 can handle nearly any member of the bowed string family, and its extended high end delivers a modern tonality when miking saxophones and other wind instruments!

Compatible with BLUE Bottle Caps

Expanding the possibilities of your BLUE Bottle Rocket Stage 2, this mic is fully compatible with BLUE's acclaimed Bottle Caps, letting you interchange your capsules. Enjoy a new tonal range as you try out larger or smaller diaphragm capsules with varying pickups patterns on different sources.

PowerStream power supply

Most tube mic power supplies apply both heater and plate voltages simultaneously once power has been switched on, attracting electrons from the not yet heated cathode - potentially causing cathode stripping, which can wear out your tube and makes it get noisier. BLUE avoids this problem with their PowerStream power supply system that delivers the tube's heater voltage first, and prevents the heater current from exceeding the limits for which the tube was designed.

Blue Microphones Bottle Rocket Stage 2 Tube Microphone Capsule Options

  • B0 Cardioid Large Diaphragm Capsule - Provides a bright, silky presence that's perfect for lead and background vocals, guitar, percussion, or any other source with an extended top end.
  • B1 Cardioid Small Diaphragm Capsule - Great for capturing nylon- or steel-string guitars, small-pitched percussion, and orchestral string instruments. The B1's extended high-frequency response also makes it perfect for drum overheads, ambient/room miking, even Foley and sound-effect recording.
  • B2 Figure of Eight Large Diaphragm - The "vintage capsule" of the Bottle Cap Kit, providing the richness of a well-aged ribbon mic. Use this capsule to get vintage character from brass, guitar, woodwinds, and vocals, or to take the edge off of overly-bright instruments. This capsule is also great for acoustic and electric bass, cello, and even whistling.
  • B3 Cardioid Mid-Sized Diaphragm - Very transparent, with a neutral sound that's optimum for female vocals, distant miking of orchestral groups and instruments, distorted electric guitars, basses, banjos, mandolins, and resonator guitars. The capsule also lends a "folky" tone to acoustic guitars.
  • B4 Perspex Sphere Omni Small Diaphragm - Captures lush lows and sweet highs; it's perfect for the ambient recording of classical and orchestral instrumentation, as well as background vocals, organ, accordion, and drums.
  • B5 Pressure Omni Large Diaphragm - The "presence omni." Possessing a unique compressed quality, the B5 features a highly accentuated low and high frequency response that's well suited to capturing high-transient sources like acoustic guitars and percussion. The capsule's extra presence boost also helps tracks cut through a dense mix.
  • B6 Standard Cardioid Capsule - designed for the Bottle, and features a frequency response suitable for vocal and general instrument capturing. Blue describes it's sound characteristics as "larger than life", and the cardioid polar pattern is sure to effectively reduce off-axis ambient noise and feedback.
  • B7 Cardioid Large Diaphragm Single Backplate - Provides detailed mids and an airy presence, perfect for that "vintage vibe" on vocals, saxophone, flute and all types of guitars. It's also optimum for conventional jazz recording.
  • B8 Large Diaphragm Cardioid Condenser - The best choice if only using one capsule - crystal clear sound quality and excellent detail for a wide range of recording applications. Suggested applications: Male & female lead vocals, electric & acoustic guitars, drums, drum overheads, percussion, piano, horns and strings.

    Vintage warmth and presence
    Leo Wolfe

I've had this mic for a few years (under the Red Mic brand, Type A). It's my favorite vocal mic for my voice (when paired with the B0 capsule). It adds presence and warmth without getting too aggressive. I also use the B6, B7 and B8 capsules. Being able to set up the mic for a vocalist then swap out capsules quickly for the perfect match is invaluable. With a good solid state pre (Avalon M5 for me) the tube smooths the edges while staying clear and focused. It also handles loud rock vocals with just the right amount of edge.
