Blue Microphones Dragonfly Condenser Microphone

The Blue Microphones Dragonfly Condenser Microphone, a valuable asset to any studio, featuring innovative design for precise mic placement and a unique sonic signature with silky highs.

Blue Microphones Dragonfly Condenser Microphone Details

The Blue Microphones Dragonfly Condenser Microphone is one of Blue's most affordable mics and Electronic Musician's 2001 Editors' Choice Award for Best Microphone! Complete with an integrated elastic shockmount, this cardioid condenser studio mic brings Blue's big, bright sound to a new low price point. For vocals, the Dragonfly rules. It provides a similar sweet sound as that of the vintage Neumann and AKG mics heard on thousands of pop recordings in a huge range of styles. Similar in quality, that is, because the Dragonfly is no mere imitator. It puts its own distinctive signature on the sound. No matter what the size of your recording facility, you NEED a Dragonfly in your studio! The ability to position the capsule at so many angles relative to a sound source opens up a world of sonic opportunity for you. And since the Dragonfly is the most affordable of Blue's high-performance mics, project studio owners can now afford to treat their studio to these sweet Blue sounds.

The Dragonfly generates a silky extended top-end, contoured midrange and a bump at the upper end of the lower frequencies that thickens thin signal sources. With an integrated elastic shockmount and rotating head, the Dragonfly utilizes its innovative industrial design to enable quick and precise mic placement on the fly. The Dragonfly is ideally suited for high-frequency sources like alto and soprano vocals, percussion, electric guitar, cymbals, and "difficult" sources such as stringed instruments.

Great Character Mic January 25, 2013
Reviewer: Garrett Sale from Knoxville, TN United States
I bought this mic becuase i thought it sounded interesting with the hump in the mids and smoothed highs. All the hype about it on drum overheads is spot on, I have used as it a mono drum overhead and it is full, detailed, and never harsh on cymbals. I also really like it on acoustic guitar, its actually becoming my favorite acoustic guitar mic because you can literally set it up 3 ft away from the player and it stills grabs a fully balanced sound. I would not recommend this microphone if you are looking for a vocal mic or if its going to be your main condenser because it is definitely a character mic. The dragonfly could be a cool vocal mic,  but because of the push in the mid range, i have to be almost 2 feet away or my vocal will be pretty boomy. it may suit other voices better. All in all, i love this mic for what it does. It sounds exactly the way they say it will.

Blue Character Mic January 12, 2010
Reviewer: DH from Australia
I bought the a 'B - Stock' model of this mic a few months ago and my thoughts on it are generally very positive.

Like all Blue Mics it has a certain character which works on some things, less so on others. Personally i think this mic is a great one to have in the tool kit.

I really like it on any acoustic instrument and any duties that won't require pushed mids come mix time. It sounds like it somewhat extended highs and lows which is probably why it's not my first choice on vocal duties (Although youtube a Fiona Apple video where she uses it so what do i know). I find it complements say a blueberry on vox and the dragonfly on acoustic guitar.

I use the unit with a grace 101 and great river MEV-1 and find it works equally well with both pre's.

Don't hesitate to add one to your mic locker. Its not the holy grail but man it is a very nice addition to anyones setup :) - Also it looks cool so chicks dig it.
