A solid, clean, quiet piece of equipment. The "Variable Valve Voicing", tailored to various instruments or vocals, and the "Output Protection Limiting" are both useful features for home studios. I've never used it as a direct box, so I can't comment on that feature. I've owned this unit for three or four years and it's performed really well for me, providing reliably good sound.

ART TPSII Review |

ok, so I didn't have a lot of money or knowledge when I bought one of these, just a thirst for some tube warmth. So I ttok the plunge and bought one of these TPS's. Although I wasn't blown away by the sound it seemed to be a pretty solid piece of equipment, with some cool features. The V3 voicing actually accomplishes what it sets out to do. There are distinct differences in the multiple settings, and makes it easy for a novice... at the time... like me. A few years later, I decided to change the pre-amp tube to a Electro Harmonix 12ax7, and again I was impressed. Very good match for this unit. I gave it a 3, because out of the box it deserves it. After changing the tube, I give it a 4 for the money. It was really easy to change, a few screws and swap it out, the tube was very inexpensive as well. If you need bang for the buck, I'd try this.
