Daking Mic Pre IV MKII Microphone Preamp
The Daking Mic Pre IV MKII Microphone Preamp is a high-end preamps to be used in studio or live applications. The Daking Mic-Pre IV offers four channels of high performance, Class A preamplifiers in a single rack space unit with an outboard power supply.
Configured for four microphone inputs or four line inputs from XLR/TRS Neutrik combo jacks on the back, plus four line inputs (+10 to -50) or 1/4 hi-z instrument inputs on the front, the Mic-Pre IV utilizes all discrete Class A circuitry with transformer-balanced inputs and outputs. The Daking Mic-Pre IV from Geoffrey Daking & Co. is the latest example of exemplary audio quality and craftsmanship in the tradition of the great British console manufacturers.
The Mic Pre IV is a highly cost-effective solution for high-end preamps to be used in studio or live applications. Used standalone or in conjunction with a console, each input offers a stepped (5db) gain control using Dakings signature aluminum knobs, a 20-segment LED level meter with +24db peak indicator, switchable mic/line or hi-z instrument, switchable +48V phantom power, switchable input phase and switchable 20dB pad. The Mic Pre IV is housed in a robust all stainless steel enclosure with an outboard DC power supply in a separate housing, offering not only durability but immunity from noise and RF interference. The attention to detail extends to the internal components, which include gold bifurcated contacts on all relay switching. The supplied universal power supply can operate at any voltage for use worldwide.

What We Think
Daking preamps are perhaps some of the best sounding preamps available... they also happen to be one of the best values in preamps, period. There is a presence about the Daking design that isn't very toppy. These preamps exhibit a particular punchiness that really allows you lots of freedom when it comes time to mix. Many engineers who try the Daking preamps on drums never go back to the celebrated preamps of yesteryear. Listen to the clips and decide for yourself. The Daking Mic Pre IV really is the place to start if you need to get more than just a pair of preamps; the value will speak for itself through your resulting recordings.

Haven't had it but a couple weeks, but right now I'm in love. Closer to API then a neve, but with a charcuterie all its own. Currently my go to over my API pre's.
I've usually found it to be very hard to compare preamps and that the difference on a single track is almost impossible to hear. Well, that was before I got a few high end preamps. The Daking IV is really punchy, and make drums really jump out at you. Just about everything recorded with the Daking sounds great. I prefer the Great River ME-1NV for intimate vocals and bass, but the Daking for everything else. The tracks stacks up great, and since I got my good preamps and converters I found myself struggle alot less to make a good mix, using less EQ and effects. The only small complaint I have is that the Daking doesn't have a power swith. Other then that, excellent!
