Basic Distortion without Breaking the Bank

Posted by MT Drummer on May 1st 2017

The DS-1 provides distortion without making things overly complicated. Its price point is nice and makes it worth checking out. Originally I got this to add some sustain and additional crunch to a tube amp but the amp and the pedal were not a great match. This is better off used as the main source of distortion and dialed in from that standpoint. My use case happened to be better served by an overdrive pedal which I also got from Boss. Overall Boss makes durable nice sounding pedals it just takes finding the right one for your purposes.

The boss DS-1 is gonna give you a good sound for what you pay for. The pedal is durable and won't fail you. It has your basic controls with minimal options but at least some slight control over tones. I enjoy using it at soft levels and at extremely loud volumes. Mess around with it....Its only a few bucks and doesn't hurt to have lying around.

A pretty run of the mill distortion pedal

Posted by Jesse on Dec 14th 2010

This is a really popular, cheap distortion pedal but it doesn't provide much distortion at all unless you add a lot of treble to it. I know a lot of people like to mod this pedal and claim that it sounds amazing afterwards, so you might want to consider that option. For the most part I would recommend looking around for something with a little more power behind it.
