AEA R84 & RPQ500 Bundle

The AEA R84 & RPQ500 Bundle combines AEA's highly regarded R84 passive large ribbon microphone, with their RPQ500 500 series ribbon mic preamp and CurveShaper EQ, giving you the perfect mono recording set up for vocals, acoustic guitar and stringed instruments, as well as percussion.

The AEA R84 Ribbon Microphone brings the same ribbon motor and transformer of the celebrated AEA R44 to a more cost effective - but no less stellar sounding - microphone chassis. This microphone has become a modern-classic in its own right and should be in the mic locker of every studio. Vocals, drums, bass, guitar (acoustic or electric), piano, whole ensembles... this microphone does it all, as its predecessor and inspiration was designed to do way back in 1936. The R84 proves that some classics don't fade away... they adapt, improve, and strengthen with age. If you are new to ribbons, you are in for a treat! Experienced users have discovered the AEA R84 is an all purpose ribbon microphone, ideally suited for solo and accent work. It is hard to find an application where the R84 mic does not shine. The AEA R84 delivers the natural sound and figure-8 directional sensitivity a quality ribbon microphone should offer:

AEA puts the same thought and care into the RPQ500 as they put into the development of their microphones the sound of the music comes first. Building on the obstacles identified when designing preamps in the 50's, AEA now incorporates modern tools like quiet JFETS and transformerless designs to construct clean, high gain, high impedance preamps. The RPQ500 leans on the side of neutral but is unlike other clean preamps because of its rich and musical tonality. Designed after the successful RPQ preamp, the RPQ500 module provides the same signal path that has earned AEA preamps their great reputation, but in a 500 series package.
