Oktava MK 012
Nov 9th 2021I am pretty new to home recording (most typically recording my classical guitar). I had been using a Blue Yeti Pro Mic which is a very good mic by USB mic standards, but not that impressive across the mic world as I understand things. I was pleasantly surprised at how obvious the improved clarity of the Octava mic's was to my untrained ear vs. the Yeti Pro. I am new to the recording world, but I was pleased with my choice (and the super quick delivery from Front End).

May 16th 2012These are great to have. I would've never thought that they would be good drum overheads. THey are! Be diligent with placement. They really soak up the cymbals. Upright piano: dandy! Don't be afraid to just use one. Mono works too! Acoustic: quite nice. In fact for stereo acoustic, try use one mk012 paired with a ribbon or something darker and flabbier. A lot of tonal options that way. Again, just because you have two (and I'm talking to myself as well), doesn't mean that you have to use both of them. You'll need a stereo bar, and some little shockmounts. Handling/bumping noise is ridiculous. I performed the "dorsey" mod to these. It did open them up a bit, but that also meant that it made them a wee bit brighter. I don't regret it, and I would recommend for or against it.

Jun 7th 2011I am using these mics for voice as well as music and am very happy with the quality of both types of recordings. The sound is crisp and clear. I could have spent a lot more money and probably not gotten a lot better recordings.

Mar 30th 2011I've used these mics on female vocals, drum overheads, leslie cabinets and acoustic guitars. They have a very natural sound without sounding brittle and bright. Very crisp and detailed.

Universal mikes
Jun 24th 2010Great mikes you can ise just everywhere on every instrument. Tried recording ambient room sound of a concert (stereopair works realy nicely there), vocals (a little sibilant), acoustic guitar (very natural), overheads (you can just add a bass drum mike and record the whole set with great fidelity and stereofield), violin (with high roll-off), djambee (top mike). With a little help of an eq you can make every recorded sound sound good - thanks to the flattness of the mikes. Highly recommened!
