The Millennia HV-3D-8 Microphone Preamp provides the discriminating engineer with 8-channels of bulletproof preamps, delivering the pure tone of the source and microphone.

The Millennia HV-3D-8 Microphone Preamp is the preamplifier that you come to when you are ready to make the commitment to capturing audio that is without compromise. It's the preamp you go to when you have requirements that other preamplifiers just cannot meet. It's the preamp that you go to when a mistake is not an option and it absolutely must be right from the beginning. The Millennia HV-3D is the preamp with whom recording professionals entrust their careers.

The folks at Millennia Media offer the HV-3D as a bank of pre-amplifiers that can be configured on a channel by channel basis. Let's say that you need to dedicate 4 channels of the 8 to use with ribbon or dynamic microphones. This is not a problem. The DC-Decoupling mod can be applied to as many or as few channels as needed. Similarly, if you are a fan / user of the high-headroom DPA / B&K +130 Volt microphone systems, then the Millennia Media preamps will already be familiar. The +130 Volt option can be applied to as many or as few channels as desired. Front End Audio is intimately familiar with these options and we will help guide you through configuring an HV-3D system that is perfect for you. Call us at 888-228-4530 to build your custom HV-3D. We'll make sure that you're glad you did!

This is the second HV-3D for my studio. Alan helped me configure this one with 4 regular-gain preamps and 4 hi-gain preamps. It performs flawlessly for true acoustic representations, based on the coloration offered by the mic and the source.

What We Think

The Millennia HV-3D-8 Microphone Preamp is a unit that has been in my life in studios from the beginning. Starting out, I learned pretty quickly that if the guest engineers weren't using the preamps on the Neve in the studio, they were hooking up their own Millennia preamps. In fact, it was quite frequent that high-end clients brought their own racks of Millennia gear, bypassing the console entirely except for playback monitoring. As a young engineer, I was immediately impressed by the 'finished and regal sound' that the Millennia preamps had. It was evident that they weren't distorting anything, but they certainly weren't falsely embellishing anything either. As the years marched on, I learned more about equipment design, I found that many manufacturers have to continually rely on transformers to help shape the sound to have that finished sound - that many transformerless or electrically balanced preamps had a tendency to sound too stark or naked. But the 'together' sound of the Millennia preamps has stayed with me as a crowning achievement and as the agathon of the professional producer's or engineer's arsenal. The truth is that when you're dealing with having clients, you can't present them with anything that could be a cause for question. Millennia preamps are irrefutably good and have become a mark of the discriminating engineer. The HV-3D has made it's mark on more award winning and highly regarded recordings than you can imagine. The number of configuration options also make this an appealing unit. Stock, it comes with dual-outputs - perfect for live recording, but you can also add onboard AD conversion (and external Millennia converters as well), and the option exists for adding an additional set of outputs; great for recording redundancy. On the input side, you can populate the set of unused (covered) XLR ports with either DC-Coupled inputs (for Ribbon Microphones where you want to isolate the mics from any potential of accidentally receiving phantom power) or outfit those ports with +130V four-pin female XLR connectors for use only with DPA (formerly B&K) 4003, 4004, 4012, 4016 and 4041 high-voltage microphones. This last option provides an open dynamic range not possible with normal +48 volt phantom powered microphones. This 130-Volt system is really for the ultra-discriminating engineer and Millennia certainly delivers. Call us at 888-228-4530 to configure your Millennia HV-3D, and get started capturing a quality of sound that hasn't been possible with the gear you've been using thus far - unless that gear is Millennia Media gear and you're back for seconds or thirds, of course :-)
