The Miktek C5MP Microphones are small diaphragm cardioid pencil condensers designed to provide discerning engineers with a valuable new tool for the critical recording of acoustic instruments. Available in a matched pair, the C5MP's are ideal for your stereo recording applications.

The Miktek C5MP Microphones are fitted with the MK5a, 0.5-inch cardioid capsule, produces a super-linear, full-bodied response. The capsule employs a 5-micron tensioned Mylar diaphragm, on which a 0.4-micron layer of evaporated gold is applied. Tight tolerances and special attention to precise machining of the backplate, and acoustical porting, produces an off-axis response that ensures the accuracy of the microphone. Also included is the MK5b omnidirectional capsule.

The Miktek C5MP's head amplifier has been designed around the AMI T5 transformer and, together with the implementation of high quality components including hand-selected transistors, offers a sweet response reminiscent of the iconic classic mics of the past. The Miktek C5MP is perfect for recording acoustic instruments including violin, acoustic guitar, mandolin, dobro, brass, woodwind, and piano. The Miktek C5MP produces excellent results on drums as overheads or hi-hat mics.

The Miktek C5MP is hand built using components from the US, Europe and Asia, and is tested and packaged in Nashville, Tennessee, USA. Each microphone includes its serialized frequency response graph created during final testing.

Sounds good, build quality left to be desired
    Jin Zeng

This pair of mics easily sound as good, if not better, than my Neumann KM184 pair. Plus these have omni capsules. However, the build quality is not necessarily that great. The Miktek logo popped out the first time I tried to put one of the mics on included mic clip, as well as the rubber piece near capsule lifted at the corner. That being said, the mic clip appears to be a generic clip and doesn't allow clearance for the logo. Shockmount seems fitting alright. In addition, the foam insert in wooden case also seems to be an afterthought. Mics and accessories are completely sunk into cutouts, and there's no finger cutout for taking out the mics. Lastly, there's no marking at all on the capsules to identify which are cardioid and which are omni. Well, these mics sound pretty good and versatile. I'll keep them nonetheless.

    C5's

The C5 matched pair sounds wonderful! These mics are a big step up in clarity, smoothness, and overall quality of sound from the small diaphragms' I've used. I will be capturing many sources in the years to come with these babies. Props to the nice folks here at Front End for personable and exceptional service!

Worthy addition to any mic cabinet
    Brandt

First, let me explain that my four star rating means very little. At less than half the price of any mic I would consider giving a five star rating, these Mikteks would have to be given a six for value. They would make a great choice for someone wanting an articulate, natural sounding and well made mic without spending thousands. They also would make a wonderful alternative for someone who already owns some very high end microphones. The Mikteks may perhaps even embarrass a few of them. They are that good.

What We Think

The Miktek C5 Microphone really is a stunning microphone that really has no specific equal. This really has to do with the fact that where most other small diaphragm mics will transduce the sound in a rather flat fashion (which is perfect for some applications), the Miktek seems to reproduce with a very 3D and technicolor spin on the reality that is presented to it. We know that sounds fantastical and all, but just listen to it; this mic is pretty frickin' incredible (as are all the Miktek mics) and we're sure that you'll agree once you try them for yourself. This is not a "thin" or whispy small diaphragm microphone - if you don't want guts and punch, then you're going to need to pull out those filters and crank 'em up high. This is undoubtedly a full-range microphone.
