Genelec 8020CPM Studio Monitor (Single)

Genelec's 8020CPM Compact Bi-Amplified Active Monitors are a Broadcast Studio classic which double perfectly for small reference monitors for music mixing and remote tracking. Seemingly endless mounting and placement options, combined with Genelec's legendary accuracy and dependability make the 8020B a continued unrivaled offering.

The small Genelec 8020B (Height with Iso-Pod: 242 mm, Width 151 mm and Depth 142 mm) has been designed for monitoring in difficult listening environments, particularly those compromised by lack of space. However, size is no handicap to performance as the 8020A two-way active monitoring system incorporates Genelec's acoustic design innovations to minimise all forms of distortion.

The Genelec 8020B has a die-cast aluminium Minimum Diffraction Enclosure (MDE), which features relatively large internal volumes; softly curved edges and outstanding mechanical strength. As a result, the imaging accuracy and low frequency extension with such a compact enclosure are truly astounding.

The 8020B also incorporates the advanced Directivity Control Waveguide (DCW), which provides an amazingly smooth on and off axis response; while the long, curved reflex port ends in a wide flare for excellent bass articulation.

Each monitor features a 105 mm (4 inch) bass driver along with a 19 mm (3/4 inch) tweeter loaded into a new advanced Genelec Directivity Controlled Waveguide (DCW). The free field frequency response is 66 Hz to 20 kHz (± 2.5 dB). Maximum peak SPL output per pair with music material is 105 dB at 1 m. Bass and treble are each powered by 20 watt amplifiers.

The Genelec 8020B can be combined with the new Genelec 7050B Laminar Spiral Enclosure (LSE) subwoofer to provide a powerful, bass-managed and wide bandwidth surround sound monitoring system.

What We Think - Genelec 8020B Review

"Genelec continues to stand their ground as the leader of the studio monitor field. Why? Well, In a word - Translatability. Genelecs have always proven themselves to sound great and provide a sonic landscape to the engineer in a way that sounds like most people like to hear music. The best part is when you take your mixes elsewhere to listen, the results shine through as they should. In fact, I daresay, that Genelecs deliver this more often and with more consistent results than any other studio monitor.

The consistency between each of the 8000 series speakers is amazing, you can move from the 8020 all the way to the 8050 and the imaging and detail of the mids / highs is strikingly similar. What you gain by moving up a series is another roughly 10hZ of low end detail and volume. The sound is extremely detailed, and they even look fantastic! Step up into the Genelec DSP series of monitors running the GLM software and you now have an adaptive powerhouse that can convincingly fix most all of your acoustics issues at the mix position (and the ability to shift the stereo image to other positions - convincingly - as well) - all without changing the character of the monitors. So, a Genelec remains a Genelec to your ears! Nobody else has come close to offering the degree of flexibility and problem solving in the DSP monitor market. In fact, most everyone else has given up. Genelec is just getting started...

All of these reasons combine to be why we at Front End Audio chose to install a pair of the 8240A DSP monitors running the GLM Software in our studio. The results are absolutely stunning and our mixes were immediately better. This all proves to us further that if our customers need excellent studio monitors, then they need Genelecs. Give us a call - let's talk about your needs. We'll get you the right solution."

Awesome little monitors!!! April 11, 2016
Reviewer: Jason W from Greenwood, IN United States
I knew someday that I wanted to have a pair of Genelecs and I agonized over what model to get. I'm glad I decided to go with these. For a 4" woofer these put out a surprising amount of bass and volume. They are built like a tank and the built-in isolation pads are super nice.

I listen to these all the time and they haven't let me down sonically or mechanically. The next step up in the Genelec line are substantially more expensive than these. To me these are the sweet spot in the range.
