The Ferrofish Pulse 16 MX AD/DA Converter offers the same sound quality, functionality and flexibility as the Pulse 16, while upping the channel count considerably with the addition of MADI I/O.

The Ferrofish Pulse 16 MX AD/DA Converter features 16 x 16 balanced analogue inputs and outputs, 4 x ADAT I/O ports provide a full 16 x 16 channel operation even in 96 kHz SMUX mode, and 1 x MADI I/O (Optical) for transferring 64 x 64 discrete audio channels.

Full control and easy operation
The headphones output on the front panel of the Pulse 16 MX allows you to monitor every mono or stereo signal on the fly, and two TFT displays provide detailed level information for all 16 x 16 analogue inputs and outputs at a glance. The innovative on-board contextual help, much loved by owners of the Ferrofish Pulse 16, Ferrofish A32 and Ferrofish A32 Dante, can also be called up at any time making the Pulse 16 MX both intuitive and simple in use.

I've been using one of these into an SSL MADI Xtreme 64 PCIe card on MADI for a few months now on a Windows XP SP2 system, & love it. Very easy to set up & use. As reviewed by FEA, metering is easy to read & I've found the menu easy to understand & navigate through. I can hear better definition, space & depth in my recordings & mixes than my previous pre's to mixer to Firewire interface AD/DA converters. 16 channels i/o allows trouble free routing to various monitoring systems so I can finally get my teeth into some surround sound. It is noticeably cheaper than a few similar spec converters out there (which are beyond my means) so to my mind its worth the investment if excellent sound quality is your thing.

I owned the original Creamware A16, I loved it then, and I love the tricked out Ferrofish unit. Audio is clear, decent head room and easy to use. Besides what else can you buy that provides 16 channels of adda that wont cost you 2K and up? I ave this unit hooked up to my BLA Micro clock mkII and a RME RayDAT HDSPE card. I have so many I/O options it's ridiculous. Buy one already.

What We Think

The new Ferrofish Pulse 16 MX is a fantastic update to an already fantastic multi-channel AD/DA converter. As an owner and user of the original Ferrofish A16 MKII, I can attest to the quality of build, features, function, and sound. With fully phase aligned inputs and outputs, a natural clean and clear sound, that has a wonderfully spacious sound stage - the Ferrofish converters most definitely impress. Now, with the Pulse 16 MX, you get everything Ferrofish is loved for - in an updated and improved unit.
