    Ex-29 Plus
    Eric Wrecker

I've always struggled getting optimal mic placement on guitar cabs. With these headphones, dialing in on the speaker is so much easier. I've also had great success positioning acoustic guitars with a LDC mic to get nice balance between body and strings. I can't wait to try them on drums next !!

    Job accomplished!
    Nick

I record my own drums in my one room home studio and I use both an E kit and Acoustic drums, so getting drum sounds can be tricky when all you can hear either the pads from the E kit or the acoustic kit over the cue mix. The direct sound EX-29 extreme isolation Headphones got the job done, they also are very durable and serviceable being modular making them easy to repair if needed! Highly Recomend.

Incredible headphones at a great price!
    Azmyth Recording

We had tried several methods to eliminate click bleed, not all were acceptable to the artists. Front End Audio alerted us to their exclusive sale of Direct Sound products so the EX-29's didn't cost us an arm and a leg. Both do an amazing job! Highly recommended.

    My workhorse set of headphones!
    Dan Slavin

These are the olny way to track drums in my opinion, the 29 db of isolation is so vital for me, it allows me to hear the quiter parts of my recordings, and really focus in on how I need to play. The speakers inside the phones are pretty great quality, they're clear, very low noise, and really accurate and full sounding for your mixes. Build quality is great, these are sturdy and comfortable at the same time, fully size adjustable, and nice foam cushions that allow for extended use when tracking all night. I'll be getting some new pairs of these soon,I suggest you do the same, they're a really great solution for hearing yourself much better!

    Cuts down noise
    Aaron Featherstone

I bought these with the intention of being able to accurately hear what I'm recording without the bleed of an amp or drums coming through. It does an excellent job of that along with keeping the click track from bleeding into the mic. I gave it 5 stars because it has done what I wanted it to do. Whether they are the most accurate... Well, I'm not sure. They seem a little bass heavy but I'm only using them for tracking so I don't care.

    simply the best
    makoto

The tonal accuracy and depth allow for better tracking at decent volumes. Compared with other headphones you really can say there is no bleed. They have comfort and clarity for understanding nuances of vocal and instrument execution. One only detail.... I would have love them to have a volume controller in the cable. Of course, it would have made them prone to failure so.... no complains, just a wet dream.

    Great Studio Headphones
    Matt

Great headphones for the studio, flat response, get these if you worried about monitor bleed into your vocal microphones for singers and for drummers who need to only hear the mix in their headphones, I also like the fact that all the parts are replaceable through direct sound

    Amazing while they lasted!
    Jonathan Freeman

These are some of the best isolation headphones for durmming that I've ever used, and while they lasted (about a year +) they were amazing. The only reason they didn't last longer is that I was clumsy and accidentally stepped on them. When stepped on, the flimsy little plastic hinge snapped off and they were no longer usable. Besides that, great stuff!

    Good but not great isolation
    Anonymous

I bought these to help with mic placement in a small project studio. They work well for this purpose but I'm not convinced that they offer any dramatic increase in isolation over other decent closed ear headphones. Still it would be hard to do much better for the price and the sound quality is quite good.

What We Think

I have been a long time user of the Direct Sound headphones. I will not record drums or vocals without them. However, the two things that always kind of bothered me with them, were the comfort of wearing them for long periods of time, and the sound quality. After a few hours of wearing them, you kind of needed a break. They would not remain comfortable for long periods of time. With the improved "Plus Series" of headphones, that has greatly changed. The increased comfort level is beyond noticeable. They are simply much more enjoyable to wear. And then there is the sound quality. Now don't get me wrong, they have always sounded good. But, being a sealed isolation headphone, there is bound to be a build up of low mids and even low end. This was clearly a characteristic of the original designs. That though, is no more the case. The Plus Series sounds as clear, balanced, and clean as any other quality headphone in their price range - yet you still get the isolation you need. This is a stark contrast in performance, and a very very enjoyable one. It is such an improvement, that buying a new set was not only not out of the question, it was a must. The EX-25 Plus and EX-29 Plus are a big step forward for Direct Sound, and one that makes me a fan of theirs all over again. Simply great headphones, and a must for drums (and in my opinion, vocals as well).
