A Look Inside

Got-To snare bottom
Feb 25th 2023My go-to snare *bottom* mic. There will be lots of crackle and pop to add dimension to a well tuned snare when you put this on the bottom head. "4 stars" because on other sources it has not been my favorite when compared to a 57, 421, 441, D2 and a bunch of other dynamics I tried. So for me it is a bit of a one trick pony BUT it is a super awesome trick!

M201 is Great
Jun 30th 2021This is my 2nd Beyer 201 TG, and 2nd review of it, here. The first thing I did upon receiving the new mic was to compare it with my 1st mic (.. it was purchased in 2004). The two mic were nearly indistinguishable, which is what I'd hoped for, wanting the option of using these as drum overheads. Again, these are great sounding mics, very versatile and rugged, clean mids and highs and useful low end that I've noticed is not present in other good dynamic mics (there's a tool for every job). It is nice for vocals, super on guitar amps, superior on drums. The 201 is one of the best, if you can afford one, you'll be very pleased in the long run.

A better 57, in every way
Mar 2nd 2021Most people think of the SM57 as the do-all standard dynamic mic. The M201 is a better version - just as flexible, just as indestructible, but less honky and better sounding.

great dynamic mic sound
Feb 7th 2013I have owned this mic for close to ten years, and it has that Hi-Fi European dynamic mic sound. Solid as a rock, snaps into the mic clip nicely, and even has a foam windscreen for vocals( although you need some additional gain boost for that use- more than just 65 to 70db in my opinion ). This mic is mostly neutral on sources, but that can be really good. One of the best recordings that the 201TG gave me was from a clean electric Marshall guitar amp. WOW! Clean, bright and snappy without overdoing it. Great for snare, toms, AND the kick drum too.

Great snare mic
Oct 19th 2011I purchased the Beyer M 201 to replace an SM-57 for recording snare drum, and I am very happy with it. The hypercardiod pattern is very good at rejecting bleed from the hi-hat, and the M 201 produces a nice solid tone to the snare tracks.

Great microphone!
Mar 3rd 2011My band uses this as a high-hat mic mostly, and it sound phenomenal. It has a slight bump in the midrange, and it gives it a great edge. I would totally recommended this to anyone!

One of the best snare microphone !
Dec 30th 2010This is one of the best snare drum microphone. Used by a lot of sound engineers. I own 2 of them and they are very good -although not very sensitive- dynamic hypercardioid microphones. They can be used for HiHat or Electric guitar amp micking with a lot of success too... as well as with several accoustic instruments. A real winner.
