Amazingly good sounding mic for the money
Jan 12th 2010I recently got ahold of an Audio Technica AT4021 and did a careful comparison of it with several other great small-diameter cardiod SDC mics, including an AKG 451B, a Microtech-Gefell M295, a Beyerdynamic MC930. Well, not only did the AT4021 stand up well to the other three mics, all more expensive, but I was amazed at how close it sounded to the M295, the most expensive SDC mic I own! I'd say the AT4021 produced about 85% of the M295's sound, at a fraction the price. Yes, the M295 produces a more dimensional, more polished sound, great if you're recorded a solo guitar or ukulele. But in a mix with other instruments, I'd say the AT4021 will definitely produce terrific results!
