ADK Custom Shop Vienna 12-T-FET Microphone

ADK Custom Shop Vienna 12-T Microphone, the most brilliant of all ADK Custom Shop FET microphones with an almost effervescent high-end. It features a selectable Cardioid, Figure-8, and Omni pickup pattern.

The ADK Custom Shop Vienna 12-T Microphone is the most brilliant of all ADK Custom Shop FET microphones. It has an almost effervescent high-end. It is a tri-polar microphone with selectable Cardioid, Figure-8, and Omni pickup patterns. The Vienna 12 model is based on a unique FET circuit that saturates gradually (unlike most condenser microphones which tend to clip abruptly). The microphone boasts an Australian-designed capsule, British Oxford transformer, hi-end Phillips Norelco uber-FET. manufactured with methods and materials usually found with hi-fi equipment, including even a $6 resistor - expensive considering most resistors cost just a few pennies each. It took three microphone experts including a PhD in Physics, a design genius in Belgium and a 40 year-old microphone collection to create it! Add two-way attenuation pads (8 and 16 dB) to enable end-user to tailor the dynamic behavior of the microphone to the situation and obtain new textures, with rarely the need for outboard processors or even equalization.

All Class-A F.E.T. design manufactured in 3 Zigma Aerospace Manufacturing facility with British Oxford Transformer, and premium quality Low-Noise 3 Zigma capsules with Vintage Voicing Curves. The audiophile circuitry differs from lesser-designs in that it is designed for Soft-Saturation at extremely high SPL as instead of going into the ??crunch? and unpleasant distortion (not the good kind of distortion!) of hard-clipping.

What We Think - ADK Vienna 12-T Review

"The ADK Custom Shop Vienna 12-T is a fantastic microphone! It's perhaps the only solid state microphone in it's price range which sports a "C12 style capsule" of it's quality of sound and construction. In fact, this is the same capsule you'll find in the premium ADK Custom Shop CS-12 microphone, which is as fine sounding a microphone as you can hope for in a C12 style microphone. You're not just getting a microphone here; you're getting a complete package. Seriously, there is nothing more that you'll need here, except for a microphone stand... and Front End Audio includes one for you - but not just any stand, this is an Ultimate Support Pro-T-T which is a premium quality, heavy-duty microphone stand. Any way you slice it, the ADK Custom Shop microphones are a tremendous value, but also sound fantastic and musical without any hint of a brittle top end, which is all too common with an microphone with an airy top-end. Try it out if you're after this kind of sound - you won't be disappointed."

Mic does not let me down February 12, 2015
Reviewer: James Hewitt from Grand Junction, CO United States
The sound of this mic is as promised by Ryan, smooth top end with good clarity for vocals, particularly good for singers whose voice is somewhat dull.  Also sounds great on acoustic instruments.

The abundant accessories supplied (mic cable, shock mount, pop filter, wind screen, mic clip, case) are a nice addition. The pop filter is pretty standard, nothing spectacular but serviceable. The shock mount is well made and usable.

My only quibble is cosmetic, the ADK "badge" was imprecisely glued on, starting to peel off. Looked kind of cheesey. I would recommend leaving it off, or having it embossed on the metal body.

Overall this a great value, esp. at the sale price. It provides a nice complement to my U87a and Rode K2, giving me some additional tonal variety.
