    179s
    Anonymous

Got a pair for toms as recommended by so many. I guess I have been spoiled all these years. My AKG 460Bs give me the toms I want......plug and play. The 179s get there.....with a bit of messing. However, big surprise. My voice with all its annoying lumps and bumps in the midrange, comes out smooth and modern in the the hyper-C. Sneaking in close gives a nice, clean low end boost, where my voice finds its emotional gold. Very pleased. These will get lots of use

    Price
    Adam Smith

Great for the price. Its great having a mic with a variable polar patter. You can really dial in for the room. It does however hum when you touch the selector switch. I would definitely still recommend because of the price.

Nice worm over all sound in omni. Bright sound on figure of 8. Good for experiment, poly pattern capsule. Nice on Acoustic Guitar, Hand Drum on the top, and good for room mic and stereo miking.

These are great mics for Drums. They are known for toms because of the hypercardioid setting but try them on overheads!

A very good sounding mic. I use for voice and acoustic guitar in my home studio. Very clean, clear and transparent. Two brothers have these and like them. One uses two of them live.

    great mic excellent service
    Joe E

I purchased two of these to use as stereo pair, mid-sid, and for drums and guitar amp stuff. Very versatile mics. I am no expert but they do sound very real no color leaving room for eq'ing etc to sound perfect. Plus the multi pattern ability makes then even better. Aside from the excellent product, front end audio gets 10 stars for customer service. I had an issue with the free xlr cord and they fixed the problem and I had a new one in three days. Plus they let me keep the one I got. A+ for Front End Audio

What We Think

The M179 is a great all purpose mic. I like to refer to them as the SM57s of Condenser Mics. It has a clean and neutral sound that makes them great on any sound source. It's fantastic on drum overheads, one of the main applications I use them on. The M179's are priced so right using them for toms is a no-brainer (see our FEA multi-packs), and they sound good on many vocals, guitar cabs, (great on) acoustic instruments - everyone should own a pair! The completely variable pattern is a strong attribute as well. My pair is on every recording session I do.
