Waves DiGiGrid MGO Optical MADI SoundGrid Interface

The Waves DiGiGrid MGO Optical MADI interface allows you to connect any MADI-equipped device to the SoundGrid network. With a Waves SGS SoundGrid Server, record, process and playback with as many plugins as you like at a super-low 0.8ms system latency!

The Waves DiGiGrid MGO interface gives you the ability to connect any optical MADI-enabled device to Waves SoundGrid, for networking and processing. Use hundreds of Waves and third-party plugins to record, process and playback up to 128 audio channels, with super-low latency of only 0.8 milliseconds. This compact and portable MADI interface even lets you record to two computers at the same time, so you can use one for virtual soundcheck, the other for backup. Whether you’re in a hotel room, on the tour bus or between flights, you can get to work setting up your next show – on your laptop.

With a DiGiGrid MGO MADI-to-SoundGrid interface and an Ethernet cable, real-time low-latency networking and processing is at your fingertips.

The DiGiGrid MGO is also a new, key link in opening the Waves SoundGrid Server DSP system up to any MADI-capable Live or Broadcast console. Waves has released TWO new Ethernet/MADI Interfaces to link a computer to console and SoundGrid Server (via a Switch) and the only difference between the Waves DiGiGrid MGB and Waves DigiGrid MGO models is your choice of MADI on BNC or optical connection.

Add a Waves SoundGrid DSP server and SWI plus Waves MultiRack SoundGrid application, and now any MADI-compatible live or broadcast console has instant access to real-time processing.

In its most basic mode, connect the MGO straight to your laptop or desktop: You can now record up to 128 channels through your computer’s 1GB Ethernet port, with simultaneous playback of 128 channels.

Add a SoundGrid DSP server and SWI plus Waves MultiRack SoundGrid host application, and now any MADI-compatible live or broadcast console has instant access to real-time low-latency processing.

Does your application demand a higher level of audio quality? A simple configuration change switches the unit over to 96kHz, with 64 channels of recording and 64 channels of simultaneous playback.

And if longer distance optical fiber cable runs are required, simply upgrade either or both of the MGO’s standard multimode transceivers to optional single mode transceivers.

What We Think

The Waves DiGiGrid MGO is rapidly expanding the capabilities of Optical MADI equipped digital live sound consoles as well as extending the lifetimes for converters which sound good, but whose existing PCI and PCIe interface cards hold them back from their full potential. The MGO gives ultra-low-latency (0.8 ms!!!) performance as well as establishing the battle proven SoundGrid network for virtually unlimited connectivity possibilities. Once the network is established, any DiGiGrid/SoundGrid compatible device may be connected; including any computers which have the SoundGrid driver installed. This means that a laptop running Ableton Live with the SoundGrid driver installed, can simply be connected into the network via a CAT5 cable and the stock ethernet port, sending signal to wherever it's routed in the PATCH page of SoundGrid Studio and the eMotion ST mixer... And this works in live sound, too! No sense in fooling with audio interfaces, DI boxes, etc. Now the drummer or whoever can send the FOH and monitor mixer multi-track outputs direct from their computer. Obviously, these are side benefits of DiGiGrid/SoundGrid... but they're incredibly powerful benefits which put this system - regardless of which DiGiGrid devices you employ - head and shoulders above the rest.
