What We Think

Universal Audio's Apollo 8 DUO Thunderbolt Audio Interface delivers all of the same hardware I/O capabilities of its QUAD counterpart, only with half of the QUAD's onboard UAD processing capabilities. But if you're on a budget or already have a Universal Audio UAD-2 PCIe or Universal Audio UAD-2 Satellite unit (or three) then this could be the unit for you. Sporting two more preamps than the Apollo Twin DUO (or SOLO for that matter), also gives an additional I/O capabilities for 8x8 analog I/O as well as another 8x8 via ADAT / SMUX, 2 channels of S/PDIF (AES3), as well as Digital Wordclock I/O over 2 BNC adapters. Thunderbolt capabilities allow for the networking of up to 4 Apollo devices and 6 total UAD-2 devices. So, no matter where you are now, your Apollo and UAD-2 system can grow with you and your needs. Universal Audio has really turned the audio world upside down with Apollo, and if you're in the market for an interface, you should really give the Apollo 8 DUO a chance to do the same for you.
