Thermionic Culture Phoenix Mono Compressor Details

The Thermionic Culture Phoenix Mono Mic Amp Compressor's 2013 release celebrates Thermionic Culture's 15th Anniversary and shows off quite a few new improvements and upgrades over its popular predecessor; the discontinued Thermionic Culture Phoenix HG Mic Amp Compressor.

Thermionic Culture Phoenix Mono Mic Amp Compressor for starters still features a wonderful Mic Amp. However, it now utilizes a 6AQ8EH input valve, providing users with higher gain, tighter compression, and low noise characteristics; all of which are certainly greatly desired. As a result, the HG 15's gain range sees a marked improvement from 28dB up to 53dB. The HG 15 is certainly suitable for most commonly-used condenser microphones - and it will certainly work well with some of the newer, active ribbon microphone designs as well as with valve/tube microphones. Switchable 48V phantom power is on-board and the HG 15 features premium Sowter transformer balancing on the inputs and outputs. So, deliciously rich sound is guaranteed!

Thermionic Culture designer Vic Keary describes the Thermionic Culture Phoenix HG 15 Mono Mic Amp Compressor as being "?a channel strip in a sort of unconventional way..." The HG 15 feautres Bass Cut, Presence and Air controls "" all of which make a fairly basic, but very musical and non-technical musician/home-recordist-friendly equalizer. Thermionic Culture is unconventional! The compressor's side-chain eq deviates from the rest of the circuit design and is solid-state. However, it is rectified DC and no audio runs through the circuit, whatsoever, resulting in more efficient and more accurate triggering of the compression circuit.
