Steinberg CMC-QC Quick Controller

The Steinberg CMC-QC Quick Controller, houses 13 backlit buttons alongside eight rotary encoders to provide precise tactile control over virtually any effect, EQ and performance parameter in Cubase.

Steinberg CMC-QC Quick Controller Details

Small in size but big in value, the USB-powered Steinberg CMC-QC Quick Controller provides precise tactile control over virtually any effect, EQ and performance parameter within Cubase. With this intuitive micro controller you can cut and boost frequencies with utmost precision, tweak multiple effect parameters at once, remote-control your favorite functions and simply set yourself free from the unmusical duo of mouse and keyboard.

The CMC-QC unit houses 13 illuminated buttons and eight rotary encoders with green LED lights that change their lighting intensity according to the set position. To ensure a maximum of flexibility, the controller comes with three dedicated working modes EQ, Quick Control and MIDI. Once in the EQ mode, the rotary encoders mirror the Cubase Channel EQ controls to give you accurate control over the frequency, gain and bandwidth levels. Being the perfect choice for tweak freaks and control enthusiasts, the QC mode brings the powerful Cubase Quick Controls to your fingertips, including their potential to create off-the-beaten-track effects and precise automation data. The assignment is as fast as it gets: choose a parameter within Cubase, push the f/Q Learn button and turn the desired encoder that's it. Plus, the versatile MIDI mode turns the CMC-QC into a freely configurable MIDI controller to provide additional creative headroom.

Best of all, by using the included CMC-QC Editor software you can conveniently edit the MIDI control change parameters via a slick graphical interface. Parameter values are displayed underneath the respective encoders and can be entered manually.

So, whether you are looking for a smart add-on controller for your master keyboard, a versatile live performance tool or a time-saving studio companion, the CMC-QC is always the right choice.

About the Steinberg CMC Series

Today, there are many DAW control devices on the market: from mobile micro controllers to DJ-oriented solutions over to professional, multi-channel mixing desks. While all these controllers are designed to make music creation and production more convenient by overcoming the unmusical duo of computer mouse and keyboard, most of them are universal MIDI controllers that can be used with a variety of DAWs. However, due to the universal approach, users have to accept compromises the controller has to be set up, assignments have to be done and the symbols and terminology of the buttons have to be learned. In addition, most controllers are closed systems without the possibility to add further control units.

Steinberg and Yamaha think that professional DAWs, such as Cubase and Nuendo, require their very own, perfectly integrated control solution. Plus, composers, producers and mixing engineers deserve a customizable set of control units perfectly tailored to one's individual studio environment.

That's why they invented the CMC series a modular controller system that is dedicated to Cubase, but totally flexible at the same time. CMC pours the virtual Cubase workflow into a powerful hardware controller alliance to make music production even more musical. Each of the six slim-sized USB controllers mirrors a specific functional area of Cubase. Whether you need a practical touch-based mixing device, an intuitive pad controller or a time-saving assistant for hands-on recording and editing, the CMC series offers the perfect model for every task. Due to the adoption of Cubase's icons and color scheme, Cubase users instantly feel familiar with these time-saving micro controllers. Best of all, the most common functions are pre-defined and no additional assignments have to be made.

CMC also stands for total modularity, meaning that you can combine several units to form a personal Cubase control desk with exactly the control options needed. Start with a one-unit system and go for a full-scale solution later on. This way you cannot only customize your DAW control desk, but also keep focused on your music, since you add exactly the control units needed.

CMC and Cubase are an eminently powerful alliance that will put your creativity first. So touch your tracks, feel the rhythm and take control of Cubase.

Well built and highly functional March 27, 2012
Reviewer: J from Sherman Oaks, CA United States
Great controller, plug/play with Cubase easy setup with other DAWs.  It would be perfect except for two things:

(1)  The knobs aren't rubberized so are slippery out of the box.  Over time I've either gotten used to them or they have more traction as it's not an issue now.

(2)  The function buttons don't send midi so they don't show up in other DAWs outside of Cubase.  I hope a future firmware update allows for the use of these buttons in other DAWs.

Overall though, it's lightweight, sturdy build and does exactly what you think it will.
