    This is my personal live vocal mic and I find it very easy to work due to it's smaller proximity effect and condensor-ish response- it sends a strong signal and I can hang back like I might on a good studio mic as needed. Unless you're running a very loud stage, I prefer cardioid to hyper and super cardioid as it's a bit more forgiving if you like to move around a bit and more versatile on other sources.

    Definitely a step up from the "standard". I like the sound quality/clarity, as do the singers I've provided this to. Its very reasonable price and rugged construction make a great choice for loaner rigs.

    For me this microphone was kind of boring. I found the high end to be a little harsh and brittle. It has plenty of gain, which was very noticeable when tracking with this mic. I did a shootout tracking vocals with this mic and three others. The gain is great, but I still didn't care for the sound of the high end. I think this mic would probably be a good choice for a rock singer in a loud band, that needs to cut through a mix

    To me and the people I've tried it on, this is a better mic than the SM58 which everybody uses. Main difference is in the mid range up where this sounds a lot more clear! Definitely worth the price!

    I want to thank Dave Alewine at FrontEndAudio for his help. I have used the e935 for several live performances with vocals and harmonica. The e935 has a good dynamic range and responds well to tenor and baritone voices. It reproduces mid and upper mid range frequencies particularly well giving clarity to lyrics without being harsh. It does not require a lot of pre-amp gain. There is minimal proximity effect so you have room to backaway from the microphone and still be heard, and does not clip or distort at close range. I prefer the fidelity of this microphone over an SM58. The e935 has a different sound quality than a Shure SM87 and Audix OM-6. The SM87 has a stronger bass response; the OM-6 a flatter response. The sound fidelity of the e935 has condensor like quality. It is also sturdy and solid. As an improvement, install a better internal windscreen to minimize 'plosives.'

The Sennheiser e935 has been one of my favorite recommendations for stage microphones for many years now. While there are some real winners that have come on the market in the recent couple of years, the e935 has stayed strong and popular with sound companies and top-tier touring artists, alike. It's combination of supreme ruggedness and excellent sound, make it tough to beat. It's an excellent choice for someone looking for more clarity than they're used to, without getting into a mic that is far more 'crisp'. Plus, it's got a tight bottom-end. But overall, the thing that stands out about it is that it's nicely balanced and it's performance 'approach' response is very workable for a vocalist who wants 'an instrument', per se. Plus, it's a reasonable middle ground price-wise for a step up from the murkier standard-fare. The Sennheiser e935 is definitely worth checking out.
