What We Think - Sennheiser HD280 Pro Review

The Sennheiser HD280 Pro are solid headphones. I have been using them in my studio for about six years now, and have loved using them for tracking and editing. They are very comfortable to wear, and downright great performers. After their break-in period, the bass opens up a good bit, providing a nice image, and the top softens to a very pleasant, but clear reproduction. Ear fatigue is not bad at all with them, and they have served me well in tracking guitars, keyboards, and bass in my studio. Add in the fact that they are more than reasonably priced, the HD280s, are well worth looking into.

Great headphone. It works perfectly to check the stereo field of the mixes. If you mix on a laptop on the road it's excellent because it's foldable and easy to travel.

Decent headphones, but don't mix with them December 5, 2011
Reviewer: Joel Hunger from Portland, OR United States
I got these because I needed a closed back pair of headphones for tracking. For that purpose they're great - the sound quality is nice and clear, and these definitely compete with other headphones in this price range. They're also great as all purpose listening headphones.  When I first took them out of the box I thought that they looked stiff and uncomfortable but generally they feel just fine and I don't really notice them on my head.

I wouldn't recommend mixing with them.  Others might have different opinions, but I find that I don't hear enough bass so that if I attempt a mix with the 280s  and then turn on the monitors the overcompensation is wildly apparent.

Great for tracking, not so much for mixing. Very isolated..no bleed whatsoever. Recommended.

Good for tracking but that is about it.... September 13, 2011

I realize this is subjective but a friend of mine had borrowed my Sony 7506s on a session and decided he wanted a good $100 pair of cans for tracking in his home studio. He was talked into these at his local guitar shop. A few weeks ago I was working with him again and we swapped headphones to compare. These are well made for the price point and provide good isolation but are very boxy sounding compared to the Sonys. These would be good for loud monitoring in a tracking situation but that's about it.

Good rock solid headphone October 30, 2010

This is the second Sennheiser headphone that I've owned. My previous one that costed few hundred dollars broke in 3 years. But this one is so well built that nothing has fallen apart after 4 years of daily use. The only scratches that I get is from the middle part of the head band since I always retract the phone cups after each use. It has an excellent full range of sound, however, I find it a little too much bass for recording monitoring purpose. So I usually use it for movie watching since it's also got really good isolation from noises.
