Rode NT2-A Large-Diaphragm Condenser Microphone Details

The Rode NT2-A carries on the tradition forged by the now legendary RDE NT2. A professional large capsule (1") studio microphone incorporating three-position pick-up patterns, PAD and high pass filter switches conveniently located on the mic body.

At the heart of the NT2-A is the Australian designed and manufactured HF1 dual diaphragm capsule. The frequency and transient response of this transducer has been voiced to complement today's modern recording techniques, and yet still evoke the silky smooth character of the legendary microphones of the 50's and 60's. These features provide the flexibility and superlative audio characteristics that make the NT2-A one of the most versatile condenser mics available.

The NT2-A's variable controls allow switching between Omni, Figure 8, and Cardioid polar patterns. The three position high-pass filter provides a flat response or an 80Hz and 40Hz high pass filter to be selected. Finally the microphones Pad can be switched between 0 dB, -5dB and -10dB. The NT2-A comes in a soft pouch with an M2 stand mount.

    What We Think
"I recently rounded out a pair of the RODE NT2-A (I had owned a single NT2-A for years) and I sure am glad that I did!  This really is a fantastic multi-purpose microphone for the studio. It has just the right amount of character to help really "flatter" a source without losing a sense of realism and overall clarity. I really do like my pair over a drum kit. Like the rest of the RODE large diaphragm line, the NT2-A is a beast to hold in your hand - this sucker is stout! RODE could never be accused of making a fragile microphone. Basically, the NT2-A sounds great, is very versatile and durable, and won't break the bank."

Enough can't be said regarding the overall quality and value involved with this mic. It is not only superbly well constructed allowing for every detail, but it is one of the quietest mics (non existent self noise) of all the microphones available in the world bar NONE. Many like to say a microphone will have a "character". Well if this one has one, it is neutrality. Overall it does what it is told. If you get up front and personal with it you are rewarded with a rich warmth only a fine tube mic can equal. If you stand back a bit it still picks up the air of the singers vocal character. The variable pattern is a plus where as the build quality will take it and never let you down. If you want the performance of a $3000 Neumann and don't wish to lay out the cash, this mic will get you there nicely. Having owned several Neumann's and AKG's top mics I feel I can say that without hesitation.

Thank you for your feedback on this review. We appreciate your input!
