| Phoenix Audio DRS-1 Microphone Preamplifier Details
With the Phoenix DRS-1, a single channel, half rack-width, mono Pre/DI, Phoenix Audio follows up on from the huge success of the DRS-2, 2–channel microphone pre-amplifier/DI. The DRS-1 Mic-Pre/DI uses their well proven and loved Class A output stage (DSOP-2), but also has Phoenix's latest breakthrough in transformerless Class A, Discrete Mic Input Technology which gives a "valve-like" sound. It also incorporates their high input impedance DI circuitry.

"The Phoenix Audio DRS-1 is a fantastically unique sounding preamp that combines the best sounds from transformerless input and the big-iron sound of a big-honkin' output transformer. The result is a big and open clean sound that has guts reminiscant of the sound of the best Neve modules. Phoenix preamps are a little different to use for the first time since you basically start out with the input (the big knob) set all the way to the right and then adjust the output on the small knob until your level is good. Engaging the Mic/Line switch is the equivalent of a -20dB pad. One thing that comes in really handy in the studio is that the DRS-1 has a mic XLR input on the front panel along with the normal I/O on the rear to keep you wired up to your tracking room, but then also allow you to easily plug a mic into the preamp while in the control room. The DRS-1 is such a unique, usable, and sought after sound that it's definitely a preamp that you'll want to have in your studio. "
