| Mackie Onyx 1640 EQ Modification Details This modification will enable Mackie Onyx users to record the Perkins EQ (and insert) from their DB25 and Firewire option card outputs. Selecting EQ via the EQ select switch located in the channel strip will turn the feature on once modified. There are two standard methods available from Front End Audio, pre and post fader placement of the EQ.
-
Select "post fader" and the EQ (and insert) is placed after the fader and before the DB25 / Firewire outputs.
-
Select "pre fader" and the EQ (and insert) is placed before the fader and heads straight to the DB25 / Firewire outputs.
The advantage of "post fader" being you now have access to your fader and mute while recording. The advantage of "pre fader" being you are skipping the additional fader circuitry (slightly cleaner path) and your mutes and fader can be used for your monitor or live mix.
I personally had mine setup "pre fader" so I can still record live gigs with it and I can control the monitor mix easily without affecting my signal "to tape" (ok hard disk...). – Warren Dent, Front End Audio
