My "go to" small diaphragm mic... August 12, 2010
Reviewer: Jason Dickerson from Tustin, CA United States
MXL was pretty much the game changer in the studio mic world... they make inexpensive BUT really good stuff (for the most part). The MXL 604 is no different - GOOD SOUND, Self-Noise is decent, interchangable cardioid & omni capsules & a nice wooden box to store it all in for under a 100 bucks! Oh, did I mention it SOUNDS GOOD?!?!

One of my go to mics best bang for the buck. January 14, 2010
Reviewer: Chris F. from Parker, CO USA
Similar to the MXL 603S the small diaphragm MXL 604 condenser microphone includes a pad bass roll off extra omni directional capsule and a nicer case.  Working within the music industry many look down on MXL microphones because of their affordable low cost I however have achieved rather good results from MXL microphones including the 604.  Sort of my go to mic the 604 has shined well on acoustic guitar and drum overhead recordings.  With well balanced lows and an accurate high end the MXL 604 captures most sources quite well for its low cost.  Some of my best recordings have come from a pair 604s.  I highly recommend getting two for the exceptional affordable and added depth of stereo recordings.  I have also used the 604 for sound effects and foley recording for film.  Its quite compact and well built for many situations.  Overall the MXL 604 is a well built accurate sounding microphone at an incredible cost.  My mic locker has several MXL microphones I use often.
