What We Think - Lewitt LCT 640 Review

The Lewitt LCT 640 is an impressive mic. It has a clean and natural sound with a slight mid presence that adds a nice dimension to the detail. Whether it is drum room, drum overheads, acoustic guitar, vocals, or pretty much anything else you would want to record, the LCT 640 does it extremely well. Add in multiple patterns, roll offs, and PADs, and the mic becomes that much more versatile. The illuminated front panel makes it very easy to know your settings from a distance. While testing it on drum overheads, I was easily able to look up and know what settings the mic was on, while documenting my tests. This can be a nice simplification for session??s notes. And while these features are a plus, the performance of the mic is the best part. It will hold its own with mics of higher cost. If you are looking for a highly versatile mic with a real sound to it, this is one to put on the short list.

I've been looking for an LDC mic to capture my flamenco & nylon string guitars for some time, & this mic is the best I've heard yet at an initial mix stage (I've yet to master a track with it). Noticeable differences in sound when switching polarities initially seemed to be more clearly defined than some other dual capsule mics I've used, but more time using it will tell for sure. Great features make it easy to work with when I'm recording solo, as all the filters, polarity etc are lit, in plain view, & easy to read. Push button filters & pads work as expected & quietly, though it seems to take a bit of a knack as to how long or hard you press the button. Nothing to worry about though. The shock mount is very thoughtfully designed. It allows you to get up close with a pop filter or low SPL source. Truly glad to have this mic. A real gem for the price. Thanks again to the guys at FEA for another spot on recommendation.
