Great unit!  The preamp section is by no means transparent, but the coloration it adds to the signal is very useable.  The compressor is totally lush and creamy and by far my favorite feature.  I absolutely love the way it compliments my guitars.  It smoothes the sound of my Dot without muddying up, and it takes some of the harshness out of the treble end of my Jag-Stang without any eq tweaking.  I've used it on kick drum and it works pretty well there too.  I pushed it as hard as it would go on the kick just to see how it would react and I got this crazy electronic drum and bass sound out of it.  I don't know what's up with that, but it was pretty cool.

The EQ on the unit is very responsive and useable too.

All in all this is an excellent unit, especially in the "bang for your buck" category.  The range of possible sounds is huge.  The preamp definitely has character, while the comp and eq can dail in some great buttery tones.
