JJ Audio MXL V67G Modified Microphone
The MXL V67G is a great platform for modification because the front end of this mic is a copy of the Neumann U87. JJ Audio conducted extensive tests on this microphone and found some very nice mods for this mic that improve the sound of this microphone.
JJ Audio finally decided that they wanted to see if they could get the sound of this mic close to the sound of the Neumann U87 microphone.

JJ Audio
removed the 2SA1015 circuit and the 2SK170bl and replaced the 2SK170bl with a higher gain FET that is commonly used in a modded Neumann U87 microphone. This FET has about 7 to 8 db more gain and works well with the MXL V67G circuit. The circuit is then modded to act like the Neumann U87. The capacitors are Wima for the film caps, Sanyo, Phillips, Panasonic, Electrolytic and Polystyrene capacitors. A Zener diode is added to stabilize the voltage.

The stock capsule is very similar to the K87 capsule and responds the same way to the filtering that is in the
Neumann U87 circuit. The result is a mic that is very close in sound to the Neumann U87.

JJ Audio is a new company dedicated to providing the recording industry with superior microphones. These microphones and mods utilize classic circuitry and the highest quality parts, to fit any budget. Whether you want your microphone modded or a custom microphone JJ Audio can cover your needs

All JJ audio
modifications are built to order so lead time can be from a few days to several weeks. All JJ Audio modifications must go through a testing period to ensure you are getting the high quality modification you expect. Due to demand, time frames can be longer so if you have a deadline please give us a call first.

I rec'd my JJ Audio modded MXL V67G today and laid down a vocal tonight.  Short'n'sweet - it's a great vocal mic, especially at $400.  It blew away earlier takes with an AKG414BULS and a Shure KSM32 (both mics I've had pretty decent luck with).  I used a Black Lion Audio Auteur preamp and a touch of compression (3:1 ratio) and... that's it.  I think I've got my vocal mic for my home studio.  Thanks, Front End Audio.

Amazing value, great for vocals, acoustic guitar, as a mono overhead, ambient mic, etc. lots of mid presence, a really beautiful and smooth top end that doesnt seem to get brittle, but shimmers all the same. For the value, it cant be beat.

Great sound and nice format. Versatile it seems. So far I have used it for cello, acoustic and electric guitars as well as vocals (sung and spoken). Great value for money.
