| Genelec 8050A Black Bi-Amplified Active Monitor Details Genelec's 8050A is capable of producing peak SPL of over 120dB per pair and has a low frequency response extending down to 35Hz. The 8050A is a powerful wideband bi-amplified monitoring system, an excellent tool for large recording studios, broadcast and surround installations, mastering suites and TV and post-production houses.
Minimum Diffraction Enclosure™ for superb imaging The 8050A features Genelec's MDE (Minimum Diffraction Enclosure) enclosure with rounded edges and a gently curved front and sides. This allows the 8050A to achieve a very smooth frequency response and superb imaging qualities with minimized cabinet edge diffraction.
Genelec's Directivity Control Waveguide™ enhances directivity Like all Genelec 8000 Series monitors, the 8050A also features the advanced Genelec Directivity Control Waveguide (DCW). The revolutionary DCW has been further enhanced to provide extremely accurate control of the 8050A's directivity. Genelec designed this specially-shaped and very smooth surface and integrated it with the enclosure. Its area has been maximized to achieve an astoundingly flat on and off-axis frequency response. As a result, the 8050A has an astoundingly wide, flat frequency response both on and off axis. This also gives the 8050A superb imaging qualities and less listening fatigue.
High performance reflex port design To increase the 8050A woofer's low frequency extension and SPL capacity, Genelec designed an ingenious flow optimized reflex port. The long, curved tube maximizes airflow so the 8050A can reproduce deep bass without compression. The tube terminates with a wide flare, minimizing port noises and providing excellent bass articulation. An optimized die-cast aluminium structure with extremely durable semi-matt finish and acoustically optimized metal grilles add to the 8050A's acoustic excellence.
High audio output with low distortion Genelec's low distortion drivers - 8" bass speakers and 1" metal dome tweeters - are driven by the 8050A's dedicated 150-watt bass and 120-watt treble amplifiers after sophisticated filtering. The 8050A's sophisticated low level active crossover has versatile controls for matching the monitor to difficult acoustic environments. Magnetic shielding, overload protection circuitry and versatile room response controls are standard on the 8050A.
Versatile mounting options plus special Iso-Pod™ stand The versatile mounting features on the 8050A include integrated rear support points for wall and floor stands plus a further M10 thread for mounting on the cabinet base. In addition, every Genelec 8050A monitor comes with an Iso-Pod (Isolation Positioner/Decoupler) as standard. The Iso-Pod™ is a clever mounting stand, which allows the 8050A to perform in either the vertical or horizontal position. The IsoPod also enables the acoustic axis of the monitor to be aimed at the listener, while acoustically and mechanically decoupling the monitor from the surface it is resting on.

What We Think
The consistency between each of the 8000 series speakers is amazing, you can move from the 8020 all the way to the 8050 and the imaging and detail of the mids / highs is strikingly similar. What you gain by moving up a series is another roughly 10hZ of low end detail and volume. Very detailed sound, they even look cool! All 8000 series monitors ship with the “Isopod” which is a cool way to decouple and position them. Surround systems are available at a discount package price as well.
