The Dangerous Monitor ST is perhaps one of the biggest favors that you will ever do for yourself and your studio. No kidding. Why? You'll finally hear what's actually going on in your audio. You think you have some idea, but you really don't - and yes; I know that's a bold statement. Well, the Dangerous Music Monitor ST is a bold piece of gear! It's modular and programmable design allows you to configure a monitoring system to meet your needs - not mold you into someone else's ideas about what they think you need.
The Monitor ST is built with the highest quality parts, but thanks to the cleverly designed remote control (all digital control of the relay controlled analog circuitry inside the rack mount mainframe, it doesn't take up a ton of space on your desktop while also keeping your signal path as short as possible. In fact, some manufacturers think that it's okay to run an analog signal of your L/R source out down a bunch of cabling to a remote, and then back to the main unit in the rack. That added cabling introduces increased impedance and therefore changes the sound. Is that filter through which you wish to be making your mix decisions? I didn't think so...
"Once you compare it to other high end monitoring solutions (of which there are very few, actually), you'll understand that it's far more powerful in it's flexibility than even the most expensive alternatives. In fact, the only thing that the Monitor ST could be considered to lacks feature-wise would be DA converters. Well, never fear! The guys at Dangerous didn't miss a thing. Enter the Dangerous A.S.S. (Additional Switching System) and the Dangerous DAC-ST stereo digital to analog converter module. The Dangerous A.S.S. (not sure why we like saying that so much) will let you add in up to two modules (the other options would be the DAC-SR [more on this in a minute] and the Uniswitch which integrates with any Gefen RS232 four input video switcher to control any RS232 device, programmable by the guys at Dangerous - just let us know what you need done). Basically, as you can see, Dangerous doesn't believe in stacking you up with features that you don't need and making you pay for them to get into their level of quality. But the Monitor ST is truly the base hub of a system that can meet whatever needs you have... and speaking of which, I'm sure the film folks and surround mixers are all saying, "What about SURROUND????" Well, for that - there is the Dangerous Music Monitor SR - a module that works in tandem with the Monitor ST to give you full surround sound mixing control and integration. And if you have digital source from AES/EBU then the DAC-SR can fit inside your Dangerous A.S.S. (c'mon... get your mind out of the gutter) to give you premium mastering quality DACs for surround mixing. Nice huh?
"So, as you can see, the Dangerous Music Monitor ST system is the full-meal-deal, as it were. But you don't have to buy the whole happy meal at once - which is nice! Plus, it's not a 'light' or 'lite' version of the Dangerous Music Monitor - the Monitor ST is optimized for MIXING where the Monitor is optimized for the mastering studio. No, the quality isn't any less as they both have the same sound; which is no-sound other than what you are giving it. Speaking of what you are giving it, you really should pair the Monitor ST with a Dangerous Music 2-Bus or 2-Bus LT. This combo will revolutionize your entire experience with your studio. Seriously, stop fighting with your studio. Do yourself a favor and get into this stuff. If Dangerous Music products don't improve the quality of your work and your performance as an engineer, then you should find another line of work or another hobby. Dangerous gear doesn't get returned."
