My current front end is an A-Designs Pacifica mic pre into an A-Designs Hammer Eq. Adding this compressor after the Eq took NOTHING away (that I can detect so far- after three continuous days of use) from the quality of the signal I had before I inserted the compressor. (I've tracked vocals, acoustic guitar, and used it on the two buss). It can be very transparent to very 'apparent' (some would call 'color'). It can be made to suck if you turn the compressor knob fully clockwise and peg the gain reduction to the 18db mark on the VU. However, I'll never work it that way and for the record, the much-loved Pacifica can be made to suck if you drive it into distortion.
I'm very happy so far. Frankly, I don't see how anyone can go wrong spending well less than $1K on a two channel compressor that actually compliments the quality of a high-end boutique chain of gear like A-Designs.
