    What We Think
The M179 is a superb all purpose mic. It’s not a bright mic, it’s not a bass heavy mic, it’s pretty much even up and down the spectrum. I love it on drum overheads, talk about a big sound! M179’s are priced so right using them for toms makes sense too, and they sound good on many vocals, guitar cabs, acoustic instruments…everyone should have at least one (OK two) M179’s in their mic locker! The completely variable pattern is a strong attribute as well. I use them in my personal studio every day and love them. -Warren Dent, Front End Audio

    Suprise January 5, 2008
Reviewer: Jason Bradley from Hillsboro, OR United States
I was suprised by this mic.  It does everything pretty well.  Mostly, though, the low end is amazing - on bass cabinets and hand drums (haven't tried it on a kick yet) it has bottom end for days.  You really need a shock mount with this mic if you don't use the roll-off switch.

It worked well in a MS choir recording when paired with a M177 (you could use another 179 too).  It was a bit too flat, but a little EQ and the recording was rich and warm and articulate.

For the price, everyone should have one or two.

2007's best value for the money January 5, 2007
Reviewer: Louis-Philippe Kyer from Blainville, QC Canada
I just borrowed this mic from a friend for a session. It's amazing. You can use it on every instruments, it will always sound superb. The pad and capsule patterns are very useful and I never hesitate to use them. If it'd be written Sennheiser on it, it could sell for 800$. It's that good.

    Get one! February 28, 2006
Reviewer: Joseph Harter Jr from Riverside, CA United States
I have the Peluso 251 for vox, so thats a plateu I am staying at for now, but this is the best all puropose mic I have ever heard, at any price. The flatness and honesty of it, without it sounding anywhere near dull, along with the dead quietness is a goldmine! I would have bought it, even if it was one pattern!

    CAD M179 December 28, 2005
Reviewer: Ivette Torres from East Rockaway, NY United States
I am very happy I got this mic.  It works really well on my vocal tracks (female  vocal), and also nice on male vocals too.     It has a very clear, compact, tight kind of quality to it.  I get excellent recordings without needing to mess around with any eq'ng afterwards.  It's also very good for close micn'g because it doesn't pick up a lot of the room around you, so it's really a great mic for a non-treated room.
Nice on acoustic instruments, amps.  And, even though I haven't tried them on it, they are said to be nice for drums too.
