The CAD M179 3-Pack is perfect for your drum recording applications. We've tried dozens of mics on toms, and this mic has never been bested when put against the industry standards. It sits in the mix like no other, and requires very little EQ. The depth and attack are exceptionally delivered on tom use, and allows you to deliver size and depth from rack and floor toms - delivering consistent attack and depth. As a side address condensor, its placement is among the easiest and most out of the way any drummer could ever want. On outer kick mic use, this mic is equally as stunning. For all purpose use the M179 never sounds "bad" on anything really. Quite simply, we have found the M179 to be the finest tom-tom microphone around. It does many things well, but tom use it's a "no brainer".

What We Think
The M179 is a superb all purpose mic. It’s not a bright mic, it’s not a bass heavy mic, it’s pretty much even up and down the spectrum. It's fantastic on drum overheads, talk about a big sound! M179’s are priced so right using them for toms makes sense too, and they sound good on many vocals, guitar cabs, acoustic instruments…everyone should have at least one (OK two) M179’s in their mic locker! The completely variable pattern is a strong attribute as well. We use them in our studio every day and love them. |
