Brauner Phantom Classic-L FET Microphone Details
The Phantom Classic, like its predecessor the Phantom C (Cardioid), embodies reduction to the absolutely essential without compromise in performance.
The design philosophy of this large diaphragm FET microphone - which works purely in cardioid characteristic, guarantees a sound quality otherwise found only in our tube microphones.
Its capsule is based on the ideal of the VM1 giving the Phantom C a very
natural
and
pristine
sound character
.
The Phantom’s success was most recently augmented through the release of the limited edition Phantom AE (anniversary edition). This edition was released to mark the occasion of the company’s 10-year anniversary and was comprised of 1000 nickel colored as well as 1000 black microphones. After the paramount success of the limited Phantom anniversary series, we now deliver the legitimate successor of the Phantom C with the Phantom Classic.
The Phantom was nominated for TecAward in 2003 and received various awards by associated audio magazines.
THE BASIC "L" VERSION
The basic versions of Brauner's popular FET microphones offer the benefit to really step up to uncompromising professional audio quality even under budget constraints. They ship with the essential accessories: the microphone and a sturdy mount come in a robust box.
As the microphone is a standard model and not technically altered, the basic editions can be extended to match the standard versions by purchasing the optional accessories.

What We Think
"
To put it simply when it comes to the Brauner Phantom Classic, when I played back the results of a recent vocal mic shootout that I did, each person who heard the clips (at different times from one another) invariably asked,
'Which microphone is THAT ?!?!?'
The high frequency of the Phantom is really interesting in that it is open and airy but maintains a presence and control that is a remarkable feat for a microphone in any price range. The Maximum SPL capability of the Phantom is very high at 142dB but you should consider picking up a Pad to use with it if you're planning on using it on drums as the Phantom sports no switches for Pad or HPF. I placed one about 3 feet in front of the kick and about a foot off the floor and the sound is just killer; like a boot right in the chest. On acoustic guitar, it really shows off the natural character of the instrument in a nice tight and flattering package... which really sort of sums up the Phantom - Natural Sounding Flattery. There is just the perfect amount of character happening with this mic that just tingles the senses. Listening to this mic, it becomes quite clear to understand that there is a true passion of genius at work behind the design and fine-tuning of these microphones. As Brauner states, 'Brauner Microphones has got nothing in common with industrial mass production'. Making microphones for the folks at Brauner is a paasionate obsession and the proof is in the pudding, so to speak. To get the sound of a Brauner, you have to get a Brauner microphone; there simply is no substitute.
