What We Think

"The first time I ever heard the Avenson Audio STO-2, it was when we were doing a small diaphragm condenser shootout. I was immediately struck by the overwhelming depth and realism that I was experiencing. When we say that it sounds like you are standing there - we ain't kidding. There is something really special about a very small but high quality omnidirectional electret condenser element that is powered by a high quality and quiet on-board amplifier. I commonly use these as room microphones for drum recording and also on acoustic instruments. I would even use the STO-2 for recording electric guitar for a jazz date (at about 6-15 feet for the tone). They are killer for live recording and you might wish to use a jecklin A great pair of dedicated omni-mics is a must-have in my opinion. And the Avenson Audio STO-2 is at the top of my list to recommend and use."

Avenson STO-2 mics April 24, 2012
Reviewer: Paul Sarrran from Santa Rosa, CA United States
I was truly blown away by the quality of these mics. I don't often use omnis, but these are truly everything that was described about them by both by the manufacturer and by the users who have posted online. I made my decision to purchase them based on the rave reviews. I have also used DPA's and these come pretty close for a lot less $.

Not bad, but not Earthworks mics May 1, 2011
Reviewer: Sandor from Bonny Doon, CA United States
I got these thinking what a bargain these are, compared to the way more expensive Earthworks omni mics. Well, I can tell you now that you definitely get what you pay for...The Avensons aren't bad, but they don't produce the kind of special, open and present sound that (IMHO) Earthworks omnis produce. Pluse, they're definitely noisier, so use a good pre.
