    What We Think
"Wow! I mean... WOW! This microphone is a BEAST and a heck of a value considering it's fantastic price point. Avant has always had a winner with their CV-12 - a microphone that we have traditionally pre-sold out of our orders of before they were even built. But the BV-1 is something wholly different, which is evidenced by a general 'beefiness': A beefy microphone body (this thing is heavy and BIG), a beefy case (Just how cool is this case? Tweed with Alligator trim? Forget about it...), an internally beefy Gotham Audio cable (worth $150 if purchased separately), and finally (and most importantly) a beautifully-beefy yet airy sound.

The BV-1 really is one of those microphones that you can put up and simply record without eq and it pairs nicely with compression. The high frequency response is one of the shining points of this microphone - airy and smooth. But equally wonderful is the low frequency body that doesn't seem to get boomy. One of the really interesting components of the BV-1 sound is the way it replicates the mid-range. It's almost as if the microphone does not modify the sound it is capturing within that range.  It's really a dream mic for male or female vocals.

What is the BV-1 like?  Well, the BV-1 is a wholly original design. However, it reminds me somewhat of the Sony C800G or original ELA-M251, but it most certainly is it's own beast while competing/complimenting the aforementioned mics.  I am a fan of many microphones and am critical of many as well, but the Avant BV-1 made me an instant fan. Seriously, life is too short and the price is too good to live without a BV-1... or two
