Hard to go wrong January 5, 2008

This is my favorite close mic'd mic for fiddle.  It is clear and has plenty of body, but doesn't have any hint of that screechy bow that you can get with a lot of condensers.  It sounds more transparent to me than an SM81 (my previous favorite for this application).

And, being a hypercard, it's great for live work too.  It has worked well for everything with strings and even a gurgling water fountain.  I especially like it on mandolin, accoustic guitar, and bright percussion "toys".

It's marketed as a handheld vocal mic, but I've always used it on a stand and never tried it on vocals.   Hmmmm.......
