This piece just begs you to experiment with it! My recording rack has 2 of these in it, and I'm using them to record bass and snare drum, vocals, and guitars. I find them to be very versatile, clean and toneful. They have tons of gain, and have 3 tubes in them for the mic pre, compressor, and EQ sections. I swapped these tubes out in mine with 12AT7's to make them sound a little cleaner and better to my ears, and this is an easy mod. I especially like the variable-mu compressor settings and find that they can be very transparent or aggresive-sounding, while still sounding very musical. It's nice that the Pro Channel has two types of compressor circuits to tweak. You can get the mic pre to be very clean or give a raspy distortion if that's what you're after, too. All in all, I'm glad that I have a pair of these ART Pro Channels and would recommend them to anyone to try out. Plus, they do work very well for recording bass guitar direct!
