ADAM A7X Powered Studio Monitor Details

The predecessor to the ADAM A7X, the A7, became the most famous of all ADAM monitors in a very short time. Not only has it been reviewed over three dozen times with outstanding results, it has also received numerous awards. The A7 quickly gained mass appeal, praised in many of the world's largest internet forums. Still today, the A7 are the reference monitors in many smaller studios.

With the A7X, ADAM Audio proudly presents the evolution of a legend. It takes everything that made the A7 such an outstanding speaker to a new level.

Driver technology

The first aspect that distinguishes the old from the new model is the X-ART tweeter. The "X" stands for "eXtended frequency response" and thus for one of the features of the Accelerating Ribbon Technology that has been drastically improved: the frequency response. It now extends all the way up to 50kHz. In addition, the X-ART tweeter has a higher efficiency and higher maximum sound pressure levels.

The perfect integration with the lower frequencies has been achieved with a newly designed 7" midwoofer. It has been redesigned with a much bigger voice coil (1.5") and is driven by an amplifier with twice the power compared to its predecessor. This combination produces an amazing sound and pressure levels with an almost distortion-free musical reproduction.

Amplifiers / controls

Each driver has its own dedicated amplifier. A 50W A/B amp is responsible for the X-ART tweeter, while the midwoofer is being driven by a 100W PWM amp. The front panel includes a power switch and a control for the volume that retains the volume setting independently from the on/off switch.

On the rear panel are several additional controls: a gain for the high frequencies (+/- 4dB) and two shelf filters for high and low frequencies. To ensure greater compatibility, there are both XLR (balanced) and RCA (unbalanced) connectors.

What We Think - ADAM A7X Review

"The ADAM A7 was always popular and was always a favorite of ours for it's price point. It had a great dimension to the sound, thanks to the ribbon tweeters. However, when you put them next to a lot of other monitors, you always had the volume all the way up on the A7s and were turning down the other monitors to try and match levels. Also, the top end was a little bright. So, there was some room for improvement...

Then along came the A7X. When I plugged in the first pair that we received, I was immediately made aware why ADAM had discontinued their 'P-Series' monitors: They basically made the A-X series the bridge between the old A series and the P series. These guys have POWER! Plus, they are also smooth in the top end! The large front ports make these woofers sound a lot bigger than their footprint. So, you may have to take the bloom of the air moving into account vs. what is coming at you right off the woofer. And if you want a little more accuracy in the lows (and more power, to boot) the A8X is going to be the better choice.

The A7X has been without a doubt been our most popular studio monitor in the last year. But the rest of the ADAM line is most certainly worth considering as well."

What I've Been Missing August 22, 2011
Reviewer: D. Lyles
I upgraded from KRK Rokit 5's and all I can say is D*&M!!!! I didn't realize how much I was missing until I cut these bad boys on.  The clarity of these things are exceptional.  Mixes translate very well.

Solid monitors -the bass and mids are punchy and clear - however I'm not sold on the ribbon tweeters - although they sound 'nice' and 'warm' - I think maybe they lack a little clarity in the treble department compared to dome tweeters.

Outstanding Studio Monitor May 27, 2011
Reviewer: Rob S from New York, NY
Prior to purchasing the A7X, I owned a pair of A7s.  The A7Xs include improvements in the only two areas that I felt were somewhat deficient in the A7s.  The A7Xs seem to have a major increase in available power and a nice increase in low frequency output.

The A7Xs are my favorite studio monitors in the price range.  I find them to always tell the truth.  If it sounds good through the A7Xs then it is good, but if it doesn't then you have more work to do!

Adam A7x Monitors October 1, 2010
Reviewer: Ron Kimball from South Burlington, VT United States
Sales Rep (Allan) kept in contact with me multiple times and was a great help in getting a product shipped to me when they had been back ordered all across the US.

The Adam A7X monitors were very hard to keep in stock for many companies so Front End Audio had to keep me informed almost on a daily basis which I greatly appreciated.

I told multiple companies that the first company that had them in stock and could guarantee shipment that I would purchase from them.

Front End Audio gave me the best service and guaranteed shipment of and item that was difficult to keep in stock. So they truly earned my business.

Thank you very much and Allan deserves praise for his customer service.

Finally, a budget monitor you can trust 100 %. August 7, 2010
Reviewer: Jonas Klinck from Nuuk, Greenland
I am REALLY impressed by the A7X monitors! You can make awesome mixes on these, for many hours, without getting headache. The manual says you can use them for watching films, playing games and just listening for music as well, and that's so true. I've completely replaced my hifi speakers with the A7X's, because it's such a pleasure to enjoy great music on them.

I think the old ART tweeter tended to sound harsh at times. This is not the case with new X-ART tweeter, at all! Vocals sound very natural. Extremely detailded, but still sooo smooth. Delicious sound. Guitars and cymbals also sounded very airy and transparent. There's so much room in this new X-ART tweeter. Compared to the A7, the A7X have a much more defined character, from bottom to top, and it's much easier to hear the front-to-back parts in the music. Furthermore, there's no limit of volume in nearfield situations.

You won't find a better monitor in this price range.

If you like the A7's, you will love these.
